Northside Hospital has expanded its High Risk Program with the opening of four new clinics across its health system.
The new locations are:
- Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming
- Northside/Alpharetta Medical Campus
- Northside Gwinnett in Lawrenceville
- Northside Cherokee in Canton
Launched in 2022 at Northside Atlanta, the High Risk Program provides specialized care for people at increased risk of developing cancer.
Patients may be considered at higher risk due to:
- Family history of cancer
- Mutations in hereditary cancer genes
- Previous abnormal cancer screenings or biopsies
The program currently focuses on patients at high risk for breast cancer. Consultations are conducted at the High Risk Clinics by advanced practice providers under the supervision of medical director Dr. Iqbal Garcha.
“I am excited to offer this service to our community,” Dr. Garcha said. “High-risk patients have been underserved. This dedicated program allows us to properly evaluate their risk, provide evidence-based options for reducing this risk and coordinate their follow-up care.”
The clinics feature a multidisciplinary team, including genetic counselors and dietitians. They focus on high-risk screening, cancer prevention, early detection and ongoing surveillance. Each patient receives a personalized, evidence-based care plan that may include enhanced cancer screenings, genetic testing, lifestyle changes or regular follow-ups.
“I am proud of the hard work that has gone into making this program a reality and look forward to the expansion that will allow more patients access to these services,” Dr. Garcha added.
Kiana Ohlson, MSN, FNP-C, clinical coordinator of the High Risk Program, emphasized the program’s goals.
“We aim to extend survival, improve the quality of life and reduce anxiety for high-risk individuals through proper surveillance, early detection and prompt treatment,” she said.
