Northside 101: Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that disrupts normal spinal alignment and balance. Dr. Shashank Gandhi, a neurosurgeon at Northside Hospital’s Advanced Neurosurgery Associates, explains the causes, symptoms and treatment options for scoliosis.

In this video, Dr. Gandhi discusses how families can recognize early signs of scoliosis at home, such as uneven shoulders, hips or ribs, and when to seek medical evaluation. He also outlines diagnostic imaging options like X-rays and reviews the full range of treatments, including bracing, pain management, physical therapy and minimally invasive surgery for adults.
